Black sea bass

Joe Udwari caught this black sea bass a few years ago on a ledge in about 40 feet of water.

Recently my friend Capt. Nick Whipp traded me some black sea bass in exchange for some fresh local shrimp. Nick runs charters in Englewood and usually cleans his clients’ catches here at the marina. I always enjoy seeing that Skeeter pull into a slip, because he usually exits the boat and heads straight to the cleaning table.

I like that for a couple reasons: First, I’m always interested in seeing what’s in the bucket. You never know what might have been caught on an given day. And second, he helps feed the snook hanging around the dock by throwing fish frames overboard in front of the table.
